At Studio 503, we’re inspired by artists who bring fresh craft, bold vision, and community energy to Greensboro’s creative scene. Breyanna Jones, founder of Studio Syx, does exactly that through her vibrant tufting practice – transforming yarn and fabric into custom rugs that double as functional art.

Breyanna’s Craft

Breyanna’s tufting process is a careful balance of patience and precision. Once a design is finalized, she projects the image onto tufting cloth, selects yarn colors, and loads the tufting gun. Depending on the design’s size and complexity, a project can take anywhere from a few hours to over 20.

When the design is complete, she applies latex glue, attaches backing, and uses duckbill scissors to sculpt and add texture – the step where her rugs truly come to life. The result? Bold, tactile pieces that hold both artistry and personality.

Her Journey

Breyanna began tufting in September 2020 with a punch needle, mastering the basics before diving into more complex works. Her third-ever piece was a commission, and from there she began creating rugs for friends, family, and eventually a wide range of clients – from pet owners and small businesses to celebrities. One of her standout works is a 7-foot rug commissioned by Nick Cannon, now featured in the home of his podcast The Daily Cannon.

While she continues to create personal art and take on custom commissions, Breyanna has shifted her focus to sharing her craft with others in the Triad.

Tufting Workshops

Through Studio Syx, Breyanna now offers tufting workshops where anyone can step into the creative process. Workshops are held every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m., with all designs prepped in advance so participants can dive right in.

She also hosts Tuft Thursday – a monthly workshop offered at 25% off, making the experience even more accessible to first-time tufters and curious creatives.

To RSVP, participants can choose their date, time, and upload their design directly through the Studio Syx website.

Why We Love Her

Breyanna represents the kind of creativity Studio 503 is all about – taking a craft rooted in tradition, giving it a fresh, urban edge, and inviting the community to learn, play, and create. Her rugs aren’t just functional; they’re conversation pieces that carry joy, memory, and artistry in every stitch.
