Toni Shaw, originally from Burlington, North Carolina, is the principal photographer and owner of Shaw Photography Group, a Greensboro-based studio she has led for more than 17 years. Known for her vibrant use of color and eclectic spirit, Shaw has built a career that bridges fine art and photography while amplifying the stories of those she captures.
Her artistic journey began with Fine Arts studies at Winston-Salem State University, where she explored graphic design, portrait painting, and mural work. Many of her early creations still hang in private collections, a testament to her longstanding dedication to the arts.
Overcoming Barriers in Photography
When Shaw entered the photography industry, it was largely dominated by men, with little mentorship or access for women. She recalls being excluded from family images by a then well-known Greensboro photographer during her childhood. Years later, in a remarkable twist, she was asked to document his final days. These experiences shaped Shaw’s mission: to use her camera to ensure that every subject feels truly seen.
